BENEFITING CROHN’S & COLITIS FOUNDATION OF AMERICA & THE PEDIATRIC
INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE CENTER AT CEDARS SINAI MEDICAL CENTER

Los Angeles, CA — On October 12, 2013, digital painter Daniel Leighton will be selling his work and speaking at Connecting to Cure Crohn’s & Colitis’ annual art sale and boutique. The organizations’ previous events have been a great success, bringing together such luminaries Jakob Dylan of The Wallflowers and Mike McCready from Pearl Jam. Daniel’s work explores his lifelong experience with the disease and the insights it has given him into life and the human condition. From 5 – 5:30 pm, he will be speaking about his paintings and this cause that is so dear to his heart.

Though deeply personal, Daniel’s work speaks to everyone. The narrative of some of his pieces has been further enhanced by Augmented Reality, a new technology that animates objects in the real world when viewed through a smart phone or tablet. Leighton’s ground-breaking work has attracted an ever-growing base of collectors. Best-selling author Marianne Williamson says: “Every time I look at Daniel Leighton’s paintings, I gasp. I’m discomfited. I’m thrown off my center, right smack dab into the middle of the human condition whether I like it or not. And every time I have the same thought: “Now that is art. I am moved to my core.””

The art sale & boutique will be on October 12, 2013 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Edge Photo Studio, 1388 Longwood Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90019. Daniel Leighton will speak from 5 – 5:30 pm. His artwork will be for sale, along with landscape inspired paintings and prints by artist Ellen Pressman. Other vendors include Mingle Jewelry, Love Around the Neck, Cozydream, Gwendolyn-Mary, Kathie Takowsky Jewels and Creatively Elegant Stationary. Frey Organic Wines, Maddy’s Vegan Café and Little Lily’s Kitchen are generously donating vegan and gluten-free wines, cheeses, sweets and refreshments. Suggested $5 donation includes a raffle ticket. A percentage of all proceeds will benefit the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Cedars Sinai and other affiliates of Connecting to Cure Crohn’s & Colitis. To RSVP, please email stacy@connectingtocure.org.

ABOUT DANIEL LEIGHTON

Daniel Leighton is a Los Angeles-based contemporary artist whose work arises from resurrected memories and persisting visions. His early career encapsulated the imagery of his mind through video art, technology and theory and has presently summoned expression through digital painting. Being faced with his mortality since childhood due to illness, the workings of the body are crucial and revered. As Leighton paints, he follows his physical pain to a place of physical relief. This results in an emotional landscape, which he uses to find connection to self and to other. Leighton received the prestigious Regents and Chancellors Scholarship from UC Berkeley where he graduated cum laude with a BA in filmmaking. He has had solo exhibits at the LA Arts Association POP Show by Getty curator Timothy Potts, WAAS Gallery in Dallas, TX and a group show at AY Atelier in Malibu, CA. His work is currently on display at the famed NRG Recording Studio. Daniel Leighton is a featured blogger for The Huffington Post. Visit www.danielleighton.com for more information.

ABOUT CONNECTING TO CURE

Connecting to Cure is the creation of Stacy Dylan and Dana Zatulove, two mothers who have sons affected by Crohns disease and colitis. Connecting to Cure is a unique, niche organization that has brought together the IBD community, supporting patients and funding research for these chronic diseases. We raise money through a wide range of events, from small lemonade stands to the annual Rock the Night music evening, as well as from individual donors. Additionally, we are always thinking of new and creative ways to fundraise. The proceeds of our efforts have benefitted the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) and the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center (PIBD) at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. Together we can build a community around our shared goal of supporting patients and funding research for these chronic diseases. Visit www.connectingtocure.org for more information.
